Garbeled speech

Hi just been to see mum and she is speaking gobbledy gook acording to dementia online she has severstage dementia as its because her brain is severly damaged it was quite a shock as last week she wasnt good but she was very quite any body else seen this and is the next stage no talking

My mum had this when she was ill with a chest infection- Ive heard it called "word salad"
Can you get your mum checked for an infection as this may be what is causing it? Alternatively it might be being caused by dehydration.
Once mum recovered her speech came back, but some people remain with it permanently.

I think this may be aphasia. Mum - mild/moderate dementia consequent on a number of mini-strokes - had it in the early days of her diagnosis. Seemed particularly pronounced in the mornings on getting up. Lasted for about four months but then seemed to resolve itself. The difficulty now is the usual one of trying to find the right word.

Thank for your replies mum has no infection and is drinking fine however it has been quiet rapid decline she is 93 and has 2 heart conditions it awful isn't it
