There are far too many Care/Nursing Homes claiming that they have a Dementia Unit when MOST only want folk with low level dementia.
My Mother has Alzheimer's and was recently diagnosed with Front Lobe Dementia as well, causing increased anxiety and fear of noisy environments. The Dementia Unit of the Care home she has been in since the start of March served notice on her because she is too labour intensive to deal with.
The CCG have since granted her full funding and produced a new care plan requiring her toi be in a Nursing Home rather than Care Home.
Most of these homes appear to want the simple life and only want early stage Dementia sufferers. They seem to be using "Dementia Unit" as a USP to gain interest and then decline you when you provide a copy of the Care Plan. In a quieter environment Mum is fine, she refuses to dine in her own room but equally does not like the noise when dining with the other 23 residents in the homes Dementia UNIT.
The NHS CHC department say they are struggling to find her somewhere and the current home is placing great pressure on us to find her somewhere else and to an extent they have given up doing any activities with her, further fueling her anxiety. We email other homes and they either reject or dont respond. it is becoming very difficult.
It has become pretty clear that most homes only want early stage dementia patients in South Wiltshire.
