Having been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 5 years ago the memory retention of my OH, Pauline, has clearly changed and declined but recently seems so erratic. She watches incessant “classic” TV dramas and at least three specialist channels a day are recorded and then watched hour after hour. Yes, various episodes and series are watched more than once and she never notices but yesterday she was cursing as all the recordings had been ‘seen’ before and she remembers them ( but not the other 2 or 3 times watched). Having got me to delete all of the days collection she then sat and watched one of the deleted episodes of Holby ‘ live ‘and was quite happy as it was to her, a new episode. There is no rhyme or reason to recal or retention and while frustrating and some time annoying they can be very amusing in a good way.

Is it possible to say something along the lines of 'Yes, we've seen it before but it was a particularly good one and worth rewatching'?

Along these lines, I am always annoyed when people can't believe I've read a book more than once. My response now is to ask them if they listen to a song more than once.

Have done that on occasion but she can get very bad tempered even at small suggested changes in almost anything and she has bee so good for the past few weeks I am loathe to burst the bubble. It is just that things are so unpredictable.

Your Pauline does sound like a character - I would like to meet her! My partner diagnosed with Alzheimer's about 4 1/2 years ago has no interest whatsoever in TV and will usually spoil anything I want to watch by 'talking' through it.

“ a Character” just about sums Pauline up and everyone who ever met her remembers her. An example was back in 2014 we toured Italy in our caravan and met so many people, 2 years later we visited Edinburgh for th Fringe and walking down the main shopping street heard a voice shouting her name and it was a couple we met in Italy and it was her they recognised first. Such a shame the changes IT has wrought.
