On his 10th day in his care home, Dad had a nasty fall breaking his jaw. He was sent to an out of area hospital for specialist treatment/ surgery to install pate and screws. He was sent back to the home the day after after surgery. He was unable to take fluids/solids/medication.
The next day after much ado (we all know how we have to fight when dealing with dementia) he was admitted to our local hosp. with water retention and dehydration. He was pretty poorly. Ward rang me early am yesterday to advise that he was un- responsive.
Yesterday afternoon we turned the corner and my brother and I managed to get 2 small beakers of fluid into him and my sister in Law managed to getsome yougurt down him. Today he is much better and is alert again. Just thought I would share this with you. Prague 09
