I feel compelled to share with you a statement made to me by a dementia doctor this week.
He said,
"Alzheimers is not just memory problems".

NO! REALLY.

Stay calm girl. Paste on the smile. Be polite. Grrrrrrr!

Probably why they are so dismissive of our opinions. We are just the lowly carers. What do we know about dementia.

Morning Rosie - did the good Doctor then go on to elaborate as to what other problems might be encountered during the Alzheimer's journey?

Morning WIFE.
Yes he certainly did. Very nice man but..... I did say to him "Yes I know," but it fell on deaf ears.

Enlightenment indeed. Don't you really appreciate the pearls of wisdom resulting from their many years of specialised training.

Doctor said to me "there is no cure for dementia"

My son is at medical school and I am so glad that he has witnessed first hand the problems of caring for someone with AD and the tolls it takes on family of the carers. I'm hoping he will be a better doctor for it and not come out with facile comments like that....

I have a friend - a retired colo-rectal Surgeon - told me the other day he had never heard of Lewy body dementia! - "What is it?" I explained as succinctly as possible.
