My sister and i are in the situation of looking after an empty house. My mam went into care in February and we did all the removing of the valuable things and going through old letters and photos. We found birth ,death certificates and other paperwork regarding members of family who we don't know. As mam is in the end stage of her dementia we can't ask her anything about what we have found which is really sad. We have no-one else to ask as she was an only child. We have decided to try and make a start sorting things out but you look around and wonder where to start. We also want to try and keep the place looking lived in the best we can as we can not sell the house at the moment as we have no power of attorney.
So you really have to make the most of speaking and reliving memories with your loved ones while you can.
