Electric Recliner Chairs - Safety Advice needed.

Mum has an electric disability recliner chair, it is on laminate flooring so as mum sits on it, it can slide back to, too near the wall. If we block it with anything too high it throws her forward, she ends up on the floor and we need the 999s to get her up again.

Has anyone else had the problem of electric recliner chairs slipping backwards and are there any products on the market or things I can do to secure the chair in one safe not sliding position?

Poor mum probably feels like she's on a rollercoaster, how worrying for you. Try one of the antislip rug underlays cut to size for the chair....

Have you tried a rubber mat? It could be cut so it fits just under the feet of the chair.

Buy anti-slip matting and put it under the chair.

This sort of thing is made of a rubberised type material that "clings" to smooth surfaces such as laminate flooring.

If you shop around make sure you get one intended for floors, because there are also lots that are for kitchens (for resting mixing bowl on stone surfaces units etc)

We use the new kind of rubber pot holders under the back side. It helps keep the chairs in place. This takes up less room than a whole mat, and the chairs do not seem to cut into or damage them (they are quite a hard rubber).

be very careful with electric powered chairs and beds as they have killed many children / pets playing around / inside / under them = they need to be supervised when in use by patients and switched off when not.....
