Can anyone advise me how to cope with incontinence when we have to go out,
I'm fairly new to this, and my husband is terribly embarrassed, but it's our Ruby wedding anniversary soon and we can't arrange anything due to this problem.
Thank you

Hello. The best people to ask are probably your GP, who should be able to put you in touch with the Incontinence Nurse. or maybe your CPN, or Social worker would help you to get in touch.

Sorry I cannot be of more help. Connie

I am providing these links for guidance, as what you find there may or may not apply to your specific case.

For treating urinary incontinence, go to

For the physiology of urinary incontinence, go to

For - Incontinence .... what a care-giver should know, go to
http://healingwell.healthology.com/healingwell/16367.htm - I recommend this one personally - gives a very clear explanation of different kinds of incontinence and treatment options for each.

If there is something that works for you, do let us know. Have a great celebration :)

Doubly incontinent

I have the same problem with Margaret.

I tried our local incontinence nurse and found her useless, so I read up on all the fact sheets and leaflets I could get hold of.

In the end it boils down to getting some good pads and pants and regular toileting. (See earlier posting.)

My only consolation is that Margaret no longer finds it embarrassing and is like a small child and lets me clean her and change her without too much fuss.

Most of the accidents we have now are because I forget to take her to the toilet in time.

The other thing to watch if you are going out, is to choose somewhere with a toilet for the disabled, you cannot deal with another person in a normal toilet.

It also becomes more important to keep an eye on bowel movements as constipation makes matters worse.

Not a very cheerful message I'm afraid but factual.

Cheers Barraf
