Can someone please explain the Deprivation of liberty safe guard and do you have a say if the consultant would like to issue one as my family member has been accessed and they have recommended they go into a care home, thank you

    Hi Minniemouse.
Im assuming that the CH your family member is recommended to go into is a locked unit? Mum is in a locked dementia unit and she (and all the other residents) have DOLS. Because she is in a locked unit and cannot just leave, she is being deprived of her liberty. It is actually for her own safety as she would get lost, or injure herself, but because her liberty is deprived she needs a DOLS. The emphasis is on safeguarding to make sure that it is all reasonable and appropriate.
    I hope this reassures you.
