Hello everyone,
I wanted to share some news with you – our online community Talking Point is updating our name – we are now Dementia Talking Point! This is part of a project to review the names of our support services and ensure that people understand what we do.
A clearer identity
If you’ve ever tried putting Talking Point in a google search, you will find an excellent charity with this name that helps children to develop speech, language and communication skills. You’ll also find a company that specialises in speech recognition equipment, and a film and television industry training provider!
I’m sure you’ll all agree that this could be confusing for people who want to find this community, to talk about dementia and share experiences with others.
We support everyone who is affected by dementia
Our new name Dementia Talking Point will also make it clear that we are here for people dealing with all forms of dementia – not just Alzheimer’s Disease. We know that rarer forms of dementia aren’t well represented on our community and we’d like to change that. If you have any ideas about how we could do this, please let us know.
We are part of Dementia Connect
Alzheimer’s Society is rolling out a new support service called Dementia Connect. This service connects people to the right support, at the right time, in the right way; combining face-to-face support with telephone, print and online advice and information. Also, our online directory will now be known as the Dementia Directory.
What will happen next
Over the next few weeks, you will see changes made to reflect the new service names, including Dementia Talking Point. This will include a slight change to our community’s design, new flyers, and updates where services are mentioned on Alzheimer’s Society website and social media.
I hope this is clear but if you have questions or comments, please feel free to reply to this thread or contact me by emailing talkingpoint@alzheimers.org.uk
