Hello everyone,

My dad has just been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He's only 59. I've joined TP because I don't know anyone else with family who have the disease and I don't know much about the condition myself.

My parents live in Yorkshire, I moved to London 8 years ago and now live in Watford (work in London). I feel very far away from them.
Is this early onset Alzheimer's? Dad had a brain scan and the diagnosis came back as mild/moderate. Mum (62) is his "carer" she also has her eldery mother to look after, who's 86 and lives up the road. My mum is an only child so feels a huge responsibility to care for her mum. I'm worried about my mum and my dad and they live so far away.

Any advice is welcome.
Thanks so much :)

I`m so sorry your dad has been diagnosed at such a young age. It will make it even more difficult for you when you live so far away.

He does have early onset or young onset because he is under 65.

I hope you get the help and support you need here on Talking Point and you may also be helped by reading some of the factsheets from the Alzheimer`s Society.

This one in particular may be helpful. It is for younger people with dementia.

Hi KP1985

Welcome to TP, but sorry to read of your father's diagnosis which at 59 is young. You will get a lot of support and advice here and your Mum could too, if she has the time.

There are lots of factsheets available which may help you with any questions you may have. Maybe others will put a link up for you.

I have had EO symptoms for 6 years now but remain undiagnosed.

Best wishes
Sue

Sylvia beat me to it,:) told you someone would help;):)
