Crisis team?

Things are going down hill very rapidly, mum is refusing all assistance from us & carers. She gets really really angry & distressed.
My nerves are shot!

Anyone know best place to turn? I’m getting absolutely nowhere with the ‘authorities’ involved.

All we keep getting told is she needs extra care packages/residential placement. But what do you do when you can’t even get her out the house? And she shoos the carers out within 15 minutes - if that.

I don’t want her any more distressed than she is now but I’m stumped as where to go to actually get this sorted. She’s so defiant.

Has anyone asked for a section 2? Is it even possible. Reading so much it seems like it may be our only option.

Hello @sue31

All I can suggest is you contact the helpline. If anyone has a way for you to move forward they will.

I dont know about sectioning, but with mum I had to wait for a crisis.
She had a TIA and ended up in hospital. She went from there to a care home.

This is so frustrating. If only mum wasn’t so defiant I think she would actually enjoy the company in a good home
I really don’t want her hurt/injured/in danger but it does seem like we have to wait for something similar to occur for us to get the help we need.
I can’t physically drag her to a home and have no idea how without a section or similar.
Looks like a day spent on the phone again to see what road we have to take now.
Much as she wants to be left alone she can’t live in the state she’s in.

I will do that today, thank you.
This site is so much more helpful than the authorities involved!

Did you get anywhere?
In a similar situation with my mum.
I feel is at crisis point and don’t know what to do anymore.
I’m going to contact her doctor at the memory clinic tomorrow.
Wondering about the ‘crisis’ team? Does it actually exist?
Wondering about respite care, problem is mum has repeatedly refused and as many have said can’t physically drag people places???!!!!
Some support from the community would be nice even if you don’t have any suggestions, just feel have already lost my ‘mum’
What a savage illness.

Hello @Zax sorry to hear that things have got so difficult for you. I hope that your mum's memory clinic doctor will be able to help when you contact them tomorrow, please make sure that you let them know about everything that has been happening and tell them that you feel at crisis point and don't know what to do. I'd also suggest a call to the Dementia Support Line - the link with details of how to contact them is above, in the second message in this thread. They are really helpful and will be able to help you with finding a way forward and local support.

With regards to a 'crisis' team, my local authority has a mental health crisis team so it's possible that your local authority might have one too, I found details via a Google search of the local authority name and 'crisis team'. The local authority website should also have contact details for their adult social care team too, so please let them know that you are struggling and need help. Please keep posting and let us know how you get on tomorrow.

Thx Louise just a reply helps.
Have to say so far care has been excellent.
But as things change it’s like again fumbling round in a dark room, so difficult to know what’s available. Memory clinic staff have been brilliant.
However, I’m thinking the answer is (for where we are now) probably ‘not very much’ but hope that’s wrong.
Will gets some calls made.
And try see what can sort out.
Hope your situation is tolerable
Kind regards

It’s a living nightmare. Im still no further forward.

As much as I try to enable her to stay in her own home where she wants to be ‘just left alone’ the more defiant she is in accepting the help of ourselves and the carers.
She won’t do respite, let alone consider a home. She won’t leave the house at all for any reason at all, she’s convinced if she does we won’t let her return.
Social services are pushing me to apply for a deputyship for health & welfare - which I am refusing to do as so many have said it takes an age, is an expensive waste of time & money. I do have finance POA.

So as I can’t get her to go anywhere physically or accept help I’m batting it back to the ‘professionals’ on the 27th best interests meeting to see what they come up with next.
