What does the Host role involve?

Hosts volunteer alongside the Talking Point moderating team. Our Volunteer Hosts provide extra support to the forum and its members, enabling us to provide a more responsive service.

Key aspects of the Host role are:

• Welcoming new members

• Helping to direct members to useful resources

• Explaining how to carry out basic tasks on Talking Point (e.g. sending a Private Message, or posting a new message on the main forum).

Volunteer Hosts will not be expected to enforce forum rules, or perform any technical tasks beyond those that they would routinely carry out as a member. There is no fixed time commitment required for this role.

What does the Moderator role involve?

Volunteer Moderators help to provide a welcoming and safe environment for people affected by dementia; they provide support to forum members and enforce forum rules when necessary.

Key aspects of the Moderator role are:

• Providing ongoing support to members

• Ensuring that Talking Point’s rules are upheld, and removing inappropriate messages when necessary (e.g. ‘spam’ or advertising)

• Contributing to discussions about forum policy and rules.

Who would we like to hear from?

We ask that all applicants to volunteer on Talking Point are active, posting members of the forum. It’s important that our volunteers have a good understanding of how Talking Point works, and that they are familiar to other forum members. This doesn’t mean that our newer members can’t apply to volunteer with us though, as several of our wonderful volunteers over the years have been new, enthusiastic and active forum members.

As part of our commitment to promoting inclusion and diversity on Talking Point, we would particularly welcome applications from:

• People with dementia
• People who identify as being from a Black or Minority Ethnic group
• Male users of the forum

however, others are of course also very welcome to apply. :)
