Morning...
Just checking..with all the news and virtual chat around having to look out for the mental health of people who are now "isolated" eg. Working from home..does anyone else want to scream "hey, welcome to my world"..I'm isolated, I'm a full time carer for a husband with dementia?!
Actually..I'm in a much better position than people living with dementia on their own..they really are isolated....or other carers without a family and friends support network that I have (doesn't mean I don't sometimes still feel alone..at bedtime usually). But..it does make me a bit annoyed with Coronavirus chat...also holidays...Well..TBH...it's nice 'you can even think of booking one'..it gets harder and harder - I'm 3 years in from diagnosis..This "isolation" is everyday life for a lot of people living with dementia in their lives...
Just a thought...rant over...I don't want to get bitter and feel sorry for myself, it's not helpful but just sometimes I do want to stand up and scream..only answer is to Count our Blessings, lots of people have very difficult things to deal with....Alzheimers included ?

Hi @Baby Sister , welcome from me . Yep a lot of people feel exactly the same way . It’s a shame as most people do not know what anyone else is going through behind closed doors . Glad you are here , rant away it helps , lots of lovely people on this brilliant forum , I have learnt so much and feel there is always someone in the same position and support each other . You say you have support which is great, do you get time away on your own ? Does your oh go to any day centre’s, clubs ? Have you got attendance allowance and Lpa’s sorted ?

Rant away, @Baby Sister, caring is hard work and can leave us very isolated. My friend whose partner has struggled with poor health for a while was worried about going stir crazy if locked in for two weeks and remembering how isolated I was before my partner went to day centre I had to agree. If I couldn't get out walking with our wee group every Thursday it would be hard going. You are right though, there's many who don't even have that option.

Hi @Baby Sister I must say,we are better prepared than most as we are already isolated as you say,I only leave the house to get food and that has been the way for a few years,I only have 1 friend that visits our home for 2 hours on a Monday and that may have to stop and otherwise I have a friend that I have just got back in touch with after drifting apart a few years back when I became unable to socialise,I feel a lot stronger having him back in my life, even though we mostly chat by text it gives me something to focus on other than my mum,I also chat to my Aunty on the phone at least every fortnight,so isolation no problem for me

Also it's taken a virus for this government to do something about the NHS. Also all this money has suddenly appeared!

I know exactly how you feel. My OH has Lewy Body Dementia. I love him dearly but it makes me feel so sad. Family support with visits and these are so important to both of us. Now of course no one can visit and I'm not sure how we will manage. Also he is more confused with all the changes.

Hi @babysitter well said! everyone talking about how people will cope with their well being & mental health, lots of advice out there to support them, reading your rant has just made me realise we are already living a life in shut down, five years in, normal daily routine is popping out to get essentials then straight back home, then getting OH (if he will go) out for some much needed daily exercise

It's such a funny thing, isn't it? After almost six years of caring for OH, I feel as if I am really well equipped to cope with being stuck at home. I am going to miss physical contact with my family and I will miss my volunteer groups. But apart from the fact that OH can no longer go out except to walk the dog, nothing much has changed. He spends most of his time watching old movies and I spend my time doing everything else.

But it's early days so I am going to keep everything crossed, and hope thar my self confidence hasn't been totally misplaced!
