Poor Dad had an awful episode this morning, fell into a very deep sleep couldn't be roused
he went grey and was breathing in fits and starts then hardly breathing at all, it was horrible! we called an ambulance, they worked on him, put him on the floor did CPR put oxygen on him and so on and finally he began to come round.
He went to hospital and is on the acute medical ward. He saw all sorts of people and has been agitated and confused and finally more settled by the end of the day when he saw the consultant who said his vascular dementia had changed to cerebral dementia.

However he didn't explain much about it (although he did say that he probably had about 12 months left to live) very sad to hear
I am not sure if this means that this episode will happen again, or if he will be coming home, or how long he will be in hospital........or where we go from here?!? :(

You should ask for an explanation when you next visit the hospital, if you don't get a clear answer try to make an appointment with a registrar/consultant.

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that the consultant was saying that the vascular damage had occurred to the cerebrum area of the brain.

Vascular dementia is different to other dementias in that it tends not to spread but affects discrete areas according to where the vascular damage occurs.
