Not sure if this is allowed but thought some people may wish to know that the petition group 38 degrees.org are running a petition to get carers allowance to be increased and for our job as a carer to be classed as employed. This is aimed at the government to make them be a bit more helpful to carers, here's hoping.

"...if you receive Carers Allowance you can't get free prescriptions and eye tests etc., because you can claim Income Support as well..."

Not everybody in receipt of AA qualifies for Income Support, the only financial restriction on AA is that the person earns no more than £110 a week (after taxes, care costs while they are at work and 50% of what they pay into their pension). Any pension income and capital make no difference.

Unemployed people in receipt of AA receive NI credits.

EDIT
Last line should read
Unemployed people in receipt of Carers Allowance receive NI credits.
Thanks to sleepless for pointing out my typo
