Hi,

I am currently looking for a suitable long term care home in Coventry for my Mum with mild to moderate alzheimers. As I do not live in the area I would appreciate any information about places to recommend or avoid!!

Thanks

Hi Bobtop,

On the forum we are not able to give recommendations like that. (see :http://forum.alzheimers.org.uk/faq.php?faq=about_talking_point#faq_personalendorsements)

Like you, I had to find a care home for my mother in her home town, since she wanted to stay there. I got infomation by meeting the health care professionals who knew my mother and her situation, and asking what they suggested/recommended. Strictly speaking, they are not meant to recommend CHs, but they saw it was difficult for me (I live abroad), so they were VERY helpful in giving me several names to work with.

I then visited them all - I think that is the only way to get a feel for whether they would be right for your Mum or not. There are some lovely homes, with amazing staff - I actually feel it is a more stimulating environment for my mother than being alone at home.

Good luck !

Bobtop,

My Dad was in a care home Coventry and they were excellent, specialising in Alzheimer's and Dementia, some very caring people there and their help and support was invaluable to us so I would be happy to recommend, send me a message
If you have any questions you would like to ask

Hi Bobtop

My brother is in a care home in Coventry has Alzheimer's. The place needs to be spruced up a little but the care seems very good. Seems to me you get one or the other. P M me if you want details. G L

Sorry I am new to the Forum and was not aware of this regulation!

However several people have indicated that would provide details from their experiences through private messaging. This is extremely helpful - obviously we all make our own decisions based on our knowledge of our loved one and visiting the homes ourselves, but it is always useful to hear of other people's experiences.

The decision on which Care Home is the right one for your relative is a HUGE responsibility for anyone to make. Social Services only seem to be concerned about the cost!!
