My mum needs to move into residential care, we would like to move her nearer to me but there is a difference in funding given by local authority where mum lives now and the cost of care in the home near us, which is in a different local authority. This leaves us being left to pay the top up which we can't afford to do. What happens if we can't afford pay also how much is dementia premium and would this be put towards the care.?

Could you move her to sheltered housing on a needs led basis near to you and then onto residential care when she is a resident in your area and therefore entitled to the funding from your own LA?

I believe that I have heard in the past that people move the person into their own home for a while to establish residency and then apply for a funding for a local home

others will have more experience
