Care costs after death of spouse

Good evening all,

My mother in law is in care with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Her husband died back in March. She has been paying all her pension less the personal expenses allowance as a contribution to care costs.
Now her pension has increased considerably. We can’t find a letter about this from DWP but we think she may have automatically ’inherited’ her late husband‘s NI record which has increased her pension?
Will she now be liable to pay all of this increased pension as a contribution to care costs (less the PEA)?

She also owns half of the family house (her husband left his half to the children) will this now be taken into account for care costs as there is now no dependant living in the property?
She now owns all of the money in the joint bank account which is around £21-23k, no other assets.

By the way, we are applying for CHC. Waiting for the review.

thanks for your help with this!

Yes the extra pension will be taken. Is no one living in the house? If it is sold her share will be used to pay for her care.
