What's the current diagnosis situation in Wales?
Across Wales, less than half of people with dementia have received a diagnosis. In no health board is the diagnosis rate higher than 48%, and in some it is as low as 38%. All too often, we hear stories of people with dementia who struggled to get a diagnosis or who received little support after their diagnosis. This needs to change.
In order for Alzheimer's Society to campaign for change, we need to hear the stories of people who have received a diagnosis of dementia in Wales. This is why we are running a survey to understand more about the experience of receiving a diagnosis of dementia in Wales.
The survey is aimed at people with dementia and asks questions about experiences prior to diagnosis, what happened when given a diagnosis and about support received afterwards. The information we discover will be included in a policy report that will be launched at our Wales Conference in October 2015 - the first policy report that Alzheimer's Society has published looking exclusively at the experiences of people with dementia living in Wales.
How can you get involved?
To provide evidence for this report, Alzheimer's Society would like as many people living with dementia as possible to complete this survey. Please help us get as many responses as we can by completing this survey yourself, or with people you know who have dementia, or by sharing it with others who may be interested.
The survey will be open until Monday 15 June 2015.
