Thank you to everyone for your kind words
I know it is early days, I feel so odd---I look at photos and know I will never see him like that ever again, and I remember Thursday night as I stroked his head and held his hand and said softly to him "thank you Dad for all you did for us, we love you we will always love you" and after a few gasps his breathing became less and less then that was it. Then stillness, just stillness and a huge nothing...............just nothing.
The difficult thing now is waiting for the funeral. I would prefer that it was soon so that there was some 'closure' but our family is spread out here and there and some are away abroad so it will be in just over another week. But the waiting is difficult.

Katie I also wish to send my condolences to you and your family. Like many I feel that your Dad has been spared all the indignities, but know at the same time that it is still such a huge loss to you all. Wishing you well.
