Bunions and swollen feet

This isn't really dementia-related but I'd be grateful if anyone can recommend some shoes for mum now that a combination of swollen feet and bunions are giving her a lot of discomfort. The trouble is that she insists on wearing only the shoes she already has with her in the home, which she describes as "a nice court shoe" and which press very tightly on the toes and the bunions, causing constant sore spots and infections as well as swelling whenever she tries to walk any distance (she uses a rollator). I've tried to get her to consider some specialist shoes for bunions or even just a comfortable canvas espadrille but she looks askance at anything that smacks of "old lady".
Has anyone found a workable solution that would make her feet less painful and still look elegant ?

You might have a look at hotter.com - they do all sorts of styles in extra wide fittings, and the shoes are usually nice soft leather. I just had a look and there is an extra-wide court style shoe in various colours. They do a good mail order service, pretty quick and you can always return if no good.
Sorry no link but I can never remember how to do them on the iPad.

If you find some better shoes for her, maybe best just to get shot of the others?

Not quite the same, since he didn't have foot trouble, but my FIL with dementia insisted on wearing an absolutely awful pair of old shoes that were falling to bits. He was always as stubborn as the devil even pre dementia. OH just marched him off to the shops, didn't ask, since he'd only have said no, bought him a nice new pair, and dropped the old ones in a bin on the way home!
