B12 deficiency

Mum's bloods came back and they show she has a low B12. The GP thinks this could be one reason why her memory and agitation has been worse recently. She is having B12 injections to see if it helps.

Anyone else experienced this?

It seems that so much can aggravate dementia. I had no idea!

My mum used to get these. She had vascular dementia. I do think they made a difference to her energy levels. You could see the difference when one was wearing off and the next was due. I'm not sure if they reduced her agitation though. I do hope they help your mum. x

It is a well known fact that lack of B12 can cause mental confusion and tiredness so this makes sense.
My daughter has to have regular B12 injections as her Crohn's disease means her body cannot absorb any either from food or supplements.

My mums have come back too high gp said so high they couldn't read it. B12 and Folic Acid gp talked of 'something sinister' we've had a specialist visit the house with in a week who doesn't seem too alarmed but has ordered a scan of her Liver. Today they came and took more bloods for something I've never seen before. Mums dementia has worsened over the past weeks too. It seems it doesn't take much to see a decline in their memory - I'll be interested to hear how your tests go good luck :)

At least they have found a possible cause, AG, and something can be done about it. That's way better than nothing being found and having to suppose it's just another decline further into the illness.

I hope the injections improve things. Big hugs to you both, hang in there xxxx

I find it so interesting that all these little imbalances can possibly have a huge impact.

I've never heard of having too much B12 Yoyo so I'd be interested to know how that works out.

She's been very tired too but I put it down to lack of sleep (I've got no idea how much sleep she gets).

She's been saying she feels ill and has lower back pain so I'm going to mention that to her GP too next week.

Someone mentioned checking thyroid function too so I'll investigate that!

CG, I guess it does give me hope when they say these things could be making her symptoms worse. Apparently even a small drop in B12 can mimic Alzheimer's. Interesting. It all makes me want to go and get my bloods checked!

Thank you all xxx

Hello AG, have just been through this with my mum,she has finished a course of B12 injections, and feel they have made a difference to her not feeling so tired, so it really is worth having this done as it will do no harm anyway:rolleyes:and fingers and toes crossed that they may help your mum;)
Hugs and warm wishes and do let us know if they are helping
Chris x
P.S. the nurse did say they do take some time to kick in;)

Hope boosting the B12 helps. Did you ask if they had tested her thyroid function?

Hope she soon shows some improvement xx

Her next injection is the 16 October Chris so I suspected it takes a while to get into the system. We'll see how it goes.

What with keeping an eye on her constipation, UTIs and vitamins levels, it's a full time job! ;)

I forgot to ask if they checked the TFTs Celia but I am going to the GPs with her next week so I will discuss it with him then. X
