Attendance Allowance - When moving into care

I'm just double checking as it is dangerous to assume.

1. Does attendance allowance always continue to be paid if the person recieving it goes into full time care (when fully self-funded in England).

2. Do most people in care (full self-funded) recieve the higher rate of attendance (approx £64 per week).

I'm having to notify the social services retrospectively about dad moving into full time care and want to feel confident they are not going to ask for the attendance allowance back. I hate unexpected bills!

thanks
Craig

1) Yes, except for hospital stays of more than 1 month
2) I would imagine so, but have no stats to back that up. My mother did, but she had it before she went into any specialised accommodation.

Edited to add: the only way they could ask for AA back is if he was in hospital for more than a month or was being fully funded by the NHS or social services. If he WAS hospitalised for over a month then AA stops but restarts on discharge.

Thanks for the speedy clarity Jennifer.
I'll fill those forms in with a bit more confidence now.

Kindest Regards

Not relevant to your question, Craig, but for the record, things are a bit different in Scotland. If anyone needs info on this, they can either post a question, or PM me.

You are probably sorted now Craig.

Lionel is self funding, and receives his Disability Living Allowance in full. Higher rate personal care + higher rate mobility.

I did check a couple of times when he first went away permanently.
Like you, I hate surprises/shocks.

Like yourselves, I hate nasty paying back DPW surprises so I phoned them this morning to tell them Ken was going into fully funded nursing care in two week's time. I had a lovely surprise when they told me that he would get his higher rate mobility payments re-installed but not the disability living component.
So I am very pleased that after 9 months of visiting the hospital every day, and taking Ken home every day for the last 4months (making 4 journeys a day) and paying for car parking fees at the hospital all this time, now that he is going into a nursing home - I can have the mobility allowance reinstated!

Hope all goes smoothly. Of course, you have your break with your mum to come first. Enjoy.
