My MIL had a CT scan 2 weeks ago and we have been told that she has atrophy of the frontal lobe. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if they have had any experience with a loved one suffering from this or know anything about it.
MILs short term memory is very poor, she is confused, and fixates on one thing and will not have the conversation changed as she loops continually over the same thing.
She in in a psychiatric ward at the moment and was on a section 2 but last week was put on a section 3.

We have no idea what is going to happen and would appreciate some help and information

Hello doglady. It sounds like they are talking about frontotemperal dementia (FTD)
I thought this fact-sheet might help
http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/site/scripts/documents_info.php?documentID=167

Behaviour and/or idea fixation is very common with this. It sounds like they are trying to stabalise her. Im sorry, but I dont know exactly what happens after a section 3, but I do know that many people on here have had this happen and many people have said that they thought it was for the best as it meant that their caree got the help that they so desperately needed.

I do hope that your poor MIL gets the help she needs.

My husband has a rare dementia but his started at the back of the brain rather than the front like your mum. There are open to all meetings, publications and a telephone helpline providing specialist support to people in England and Wales living with one of the five rarer dementias. You might find this helpful. You can find out more at www.ucl.ac.uk/drc/support-groups
I have found this invaluable.
