Am considering live-in care for my wife.

I am finding it very difficult to get my wife out of the house at all so am considering having a live-in carer.
Perhaps to begin with one week in every four so that I can get out.
I wondered what other peoples experiences are.
It would be very odd having a stranger come to stay but could be a lot easier then trying to get my wife to and settled in a care home.
I would perhaps also feel a bit less guilty if she were to remain at home.
Thanks.

You do what`s right for you and for your wife @PPP.

If you think it will be easier to have someone live in than have your wife in residential respite, you can only try.

I wish you luck and hope you will post an update.

Ir works for us looking after Mum. If you go through one of the large agencies it will cost around £1200-£1300 per week. I have experience of an agency that can bring that down to about £800. PM me if you'd like details.

In either case you also have to pay for their travel to your home, plus about £40 per week for food. To begin with you will have different people each time until you find ones that work for you and your wife, then you can ask them to come back. You will need a spare bedroom for them, and they will need time off each day. If you go with one of the larger agencies they will write a care plan for you listing everything that needs to be done for your wife, if you go with the web search option you will need to write a care plan yourself.

I think it is a logical first thing to try, it takes the pressure off you but means your wife is still at home. Though they were strangers on their first visit they soon become additional family members, if that is how you allow it to happen.
