John and I went for the first time to the local AD cafe. We were a bit apprehensive but it turned out lovely . Only a small group of about 10 ppl but lots of laughter and banter! We really enjoyed it and will certainly be back for the next one :)

That is good news. We also found the AS cafes very helpful and made good friends there. As a carer I benefitted from the many hints and tips we exchanged, much like TP!

I think you can relax totally as no explanations needed, just a common experience.

That's quite a small group! Here the Thursday Coffee Club and Singing for the Brain is attended by at least 30 people, but that's inner London of course. Did you have any activities going on?

Yes, they had 2 gents from the day centre there offering support and advice. The town where we live is only a very small one and the cafe is fairly new so it probably takes a bit of time for the group to grow. It essentially bad though and we enjoyed it xx

That's great and I hope will encourage other readers to try these groups. I couldn't have managed without them. John enjoys the socialising and I enjoy chatting to new people who talk sense!

Ours is too second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Don't know about crafts we just talked about anything gardening, animals , bikes and so on. There's a quiz night in the day centre and we decided to go as a team it's not a day care centre so should be fun xxx

We go regularly to the local Memory Café and it has been a lifesaver - for me at least. Ken claims he doesn't enjoy it but as he doesn't remember much about it, I take that with a pinch of salt as he makes no objections to going. The "Cared For" have an activity and the carers sometimes have speakers and sometimes we just talk amongst ourselves. It's such a relief that other people are in the same situation and understand the weird behaviour and I don't have to explain or apologise for it. The rest of the time it can feel like we've entered another dimension, the dimension of the demented, where we are invisible.
