My OH has now been in a dementia unit for 9 months and he has never settled. His behaviour is deteriorating according to the staff and they have reported that when I've had him out he is more unsettled after I've gone. He has frontal lobe dementia so deterioration in his behaviour is to be expected but I don't know whether depriving him of his 3 weekly outings is for the best. I've tried taking him out for a shorter time and getting him to paint or colour in when we get back, but he's having none of it.

I don't know what to do next. Any suggestions?

Hello Callendergirl, you could stop taking him out for a week, just to see if he is any better. I doubt it will make any difference, its the illness that makes him agitated, l only took my husband out for walks, he was happy to get back to the CH. If he is happy for you to take him out l would continue to do so.
