Just visited Mum, had phoned to say we were coming and she seemed pleased to hear from me. When she opened the door and saw us she said 'I've had a better offer' and slammed the door in our face (she has done this for over twenty years, especially if going out that evening). She is not going anywhere today.
After 2 more attempts she finally let us in and I explained we just wanted to make sure she was OK and was eating and check on her food. She kept saying 'I don't know why you bother to visit, you never do anything for me', and other hurtful things so after a quick check we left.
I sobbed all the way to my mother-in-laws. She also has dementia but was so pleased to see us and I had a lovely chat while hubby sorted out a few things. She has really been my mother forover 40years, not at all like my real mother.
