Hi

My mum has advanced alzheimers and is at home my dad cares for her. My Dad has been told today that she should go into a home. My mum has savings of about £30,000 does this mean she will have to pay for all of her care or upto until the savings go down to £23,500??? we are confused any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Hello and welcome to TP.

Your Mum will be self funding for a short while. Make sure that the LA know she is very close to needing some assistance from them because of her level of savings.

Sorting finances seems to take a little while to achieve so the sooner they know your Mum's position the better.

Until her assets drop to the upper limit she will be self funding, she will, however, still be paid all her current DWP pension and any benefits such as attendance allowance.
