Was hoping that you all know about Admiral Nurses. They are specialist Dementia Nurses, trained in giving emotional support, practical advice and just generally being very caring people, they are excellent... They are still helping my family now, after losing my Mum 6 wks ago.... For more information about them, go on the fordementia website(oops forgot to get it for you) easy to find though.... Really though I cant recommend them enough, they help just that little bit. Hope you find it helpful, Nickyxxx

Sadly, they are not yet nationwide.

So true Jennifer. This is the same with all organisations that offer help, even our own AS.

Excellent, if you live in the right area. However Nicky, thanks for flagging it up.
Must help someone.

Hi Nicky

I expect there are many 'silent ' members out there who will find this information very helpful.
It's also good to hear that they are still a comfort to you and your family.

I know that I will give them a call, the ones in my area are local for me.

I had never heard of them, it just goes to show, that we can all help each other in whatever way we can.
Keep posting Nicky
Take Care

Hi again, Jane!
Yes keep trying, there isnt always anyone in the office, But I'm sure they will get back to you as soon as they can! Our's is coming next week to see Dad, we're a bit worried about him actually, he's a broken man and completely lost without Mum. His whole life revolved around her from the moment he got up of a morning, and now , nothing!:( Friday, we're having a bench delivered to the cemetery in memory of Mum with a plaque..Anyway must dash, taking the girls trick or treating, can't wait:rolleyes:

Take good care of yourself and Mum and let me know when you hear something, Nickyxxx

I wonder how we can raise their profile, as an ex-cancer patient with a wife with Alzheimer's I get annoyed at all the cancer coverage and adverts we get and not a smidgin on Alzheimer's. I am in Leeds so they do not cover this area, Kirklees is the nearest but we do have a good Alzheimer's unit in Armley, Leeds.

Good point, Jennifer.

It would be interesting to know what progress has been made in 5 years in numbers and coverage.

Does anyone have this info?

We have found them very useful.

Admiral nurses are to Dementia, what MacMillan nurses are to Cancer. They support carers and sufferers in the community.

It would be interesting to know what progress has been made in 5 years in numbers and coverage.

It would be interesting also to know the stats on ratio of Admiral nurses : dementia sufferers & Macmillan nurses : cancer sufferers.

Someone posted on hospice care for dementia sufferer & that it's not available - end of life hospice care should be available to anyone who is terminally ill in my opinion.
