Thanks Izzy.

The ridge down the centre of the beach is a sea break, I think, but the children love climbing up and sliding down. It was lovely to see so many people on the beach even though it was so cold. Some were even paddling. :)

@love.dad.but.. It is Viking Bay in Broadstairs
Ah I thought so...love going there...still a traditional seaside town without too much commercialism.

Hello Sylvia

I had a doctors appointment at a new surgery yesterday. It was just one of those routine ones, but it always makes me feel a bit anxious.

As as I was sat in the waiting room looking around, I saw two familiar faces looking back at me :)

It was quite comforting seeing you and Dhiren smiling back at me.

x

Our Tao te Ching study group has been cancelled this morning because of the snow. It`s unusual here. The salt in the air makes heavy snowfalls rare.

I have a lung function test this afternoon so will phone the surgery to make sure its still on.

Give yourself extra time to warm up once you arrive at the surgery Sylvia. This cold weather affects my breathing as my chest tightens. x

I've just been reading the few latest posts on @LadyA`s Thread

https://forum.alzheimers.org.uk/threads/so-here-we-are.85283/page-148#post-1507215

I think back to worrying about Dhiren, when the weather was bad, who still went walkabout because he had no idea how dangerous it was.

Later, I worried in case the home carers were unable to get here.

Then I worried I wouldn`t be able to get to his care home to visit him.

A blizzard is blowing as I type. I can just sit tight.

You know, Sylvia, I think that's exactly what it is. There's no one to worry about. No one that needs me to do anything for them. God help me, at not quite 58, I'm reaching the stage where dau is anxiously asking if I'm ok for everything!! I'm glad they were here on Sunday last though. SIL chopped me enough kindling to last a few months!

It’s so odd...when our mum died my sister and I likened it to being like a balloon floating with no one holding the string. You are free...but it’s not totally a nice feeling! Keep warm and safe today, Sylvia x x

I know @LadyA

My neighbour sent me a text on Tuesday to ask if I needed anything.

I do have an elderly friend who has no family and lives nearby. She is still driving but obviously can't get out in this weather.

At least I can worry about her and know if I cannot get out for her for supplies I can ask Paul to.

Adrift. That's it exactly, @Amethyst59 . Like a boat that's lost it's mooring.

And we think we have troubles....................

I'm tuned in to local radio at the moment. A couple of elderly people have phoned in. They have no heat or hot water because their system has broken down and their insurance company , which offers 24/7 call out on the strength of direct debits, are not answering the phone.
The radio company is trying to get on to the company for them.

One person has phoned in to offer to get supplies in for anyone in his area who cannot get out for food.

Good people.

We don't seem to have as much snow as the rest of the country but its really very cold and my heating is on 24/7. Early this evening I felt a sudden chill, felt the radiators only to find they were ice cold.

I got the manual out and reset the combi boiler which relit and then began to emit the most terrifying noise.

I phoned my neighbour who came straight away. Luckily he has a similar boiler and had recently had a similar problem. The outside outlet pipe had frozen.
It took him 20 minutes to defrost the pipe with hot water and then a hair dryer and my heating was restored.

He certainly won the good neighbour gold star.

I phone Paul to tell him. They were mopping up a flooded kitchen floor. It seems the drainpipe from the washing machine had frozen and burst.

I hope there isn't a third.

Oh dear that goodness for Good Samaritans. I hope the elderly cple get help.

I saw a local taxi firm post on FB that they would transport nurses and doctors to the and from the hospital free of charge.

Oh my goodness...pipes freezing! Thank goodness your neighbour got your heating going, Sylvia.

Thank you @Amethyst59.

It`s made me quite anxious now. I though those days had gone. It`s a new boiler, only installed last year. I`ll phone today and see if anything can be done to prevent it happening again.
