Hi. I'm new to the forum. We have had concerns about my Mum for some time with ongoing memory problems and some confusion. She has always been 'difficult' and is not the most approachable person. This is worsening and she loses her temper easily especially if she is confused about something or anyone corrects her about anything. My Dad is at the end of his tether and says he cannot cope with her mood swings etc much longer and although he would never leave her, he just doesn't know what to do.
With the recent coverage on TV about dementia, I was able to speak to my Mum about going to the GP to ask for advice regarding her memory problems. They went to GP yesterday and did the 6 CIT test and she scored 17. I understand this signifies mental impairment. The GP has also ordered blood tests but I'm not sure what for.
Has anyone any experience of the 6 CIT test and any more understanding of the results? What is likely to be the next stage in diagnosis/treatment?
Thank you for any help you may be able to give.
