Is this normal in a care home

I know I shouldn't blame myself but it's so daunting, especially when you're having to make a decision for someone you love. Actually, I'm not really sure if she would go to her room but she did used to like watching the TV when she was at home but I do think it would be better if she had a...

Is this normal in a care home

I can certainly understand & accept that you have a code to exit a wing when bedrooms & lounge is altogether but on one floor you have the lounge & dining room with a code to get in & out, then you have to go up some stairs or lift, down a corridor & again another code to get in & out. Wow...

Is this normal in a care home

I know it's difficult to try & find the right balance and I blame myself for not looking more closely regarding the code entry. Well I did notice it & though how safe it would be for Mum but it never entered my mind about her not being able to gonto her room when she wanted, or being able to...

Is this normal in a care home

Thank you Jay for your kind words. We do have a lovely home that we want Mum to go to, they do not have restrictions on where she can go within the home & can even go out into their beautiful garden, again they are unable to get out of the garden but they do have a code that staff has to put in...

Is this normal in a care home

Thank you Yes Mum is mobile but you have to put a code in to get in & out of the wing, even if they could give Mum the code, she wouldn't remember it :( Unfortunately it does seem 'one size fits all' policy. They can only move Mum to the other lounge if they have a spare bedroom for that...

Is this normal in a care home

The original care home we wanted her to go to had no vacancies at the time & was put on the waiting list. Since then Mum has been offered 3 rooms there that we have had to turn down because Access said she needs to be re-accessed (Mum is not self funding) Not the fault of Access but still...

Is this normal in a care home

Thank you all for your wonderful support on here. I did ask a few months ago, why the residents in the dementia wing weren't allowed up to their rooms & I was told it was to encourage them to socialise & didn't want them to stay in their rooms all day, which at time I thought was reasonable...

Is this normal in a care home

Thank you, I totally agree but it's not the door to the outside that's the worry as I know she can't get to the outside as a member of staff has to put in a code & they don't let residents out anyway. It's the inner door that's also has a code, as does the doors to her bedroom. I just think she...

Is this normal in a care home

In totally agree saftey is paramount & fortunately that's why the main door to the outside has a code that only the staff know, so residents cannot get out. I just thought it would be nice if Mum could go up to her room when she wanted. Unfortunately when she when she does go to her room, she...

Is this normal in a care home

My Mum has now been in a care home with a dementia wing since last October (although when I do get back to the UK & see her, Mum says she's just arrived that day). Is it normal to keep people being able to walk around a care home? To get to the dementia wing on the ground floor where Mum is...

    PoA query

Our solicitor certified it was a true copy of the original document. Fortunately they are keeping the original for us, so if we need any more he will do it for us. The bank took a copy of the certified one, so I presumes they would take a copy of the original. Best if you ask them to make sure...

    PoA query

I did recently did this for my Mum as she went into a care home last October. I went to the bank first to make an appointment & ask what they needs me to take, they wanted the original or a certified copy of the POA, proof of Id (took my passport) & a utility bill with Mums details on. They took...

    Not Eating

My wonderful Mum also refuses to eat, usually saying she's just eaten. I've just been back home for 2 weeks & stayed with Mum to sort out a care home for her. While I was there she ate very well, I put the meal on a bigger plate so the portion looked smaller & she ate nearly all her meal...

Worse decision I've had to make in a long time!

Thank you all for your kind words. After posting the thread last night a dam migraine came on & I've woke up with a cold :( My mind is all over the place at the moment but on the plus side, I'm looking forward to spending a lovely day with my wonderful Mum. :) Thanks again Lima
