    Ring Cameras

Ha! This is great. I will mention the system to my sister in case she thinks it would be useful for if she needs to leave her OH on his own for a short while (which is now almost impossible). If I didn't live in France I might get one for myself to see who's calling! (We get many cold callers...

    Dad enjoying respite!

Very pleased to read this, @TNJJ. You must be relieved and heartened by his response so far.

I don't want to be a carer any more

Though not a carer myself, I echo other comments that it's important to Tell it as it really is. @kindred - not the same as paying an independent social worker, but my sister has been in touch with an ex-social worker who advised her to leapfrog her allocated social worker and team, and write...

Respite delayed for a few days.D and V at home

Oh good grief. There's neither justice nor luck to be had. Fingers crossed for Thursday.

I don't want to be a carer any more

Yes, after I wrote my last reply, I read elsewhere that using a financial POA isn't dependent on mental incapacity. I'm sure my sister will already know this, it was just a gap in my understanding. No idea if she has scanned it onto her computer, but it's a good idea. Will ask when I see her (I...

I don't want to be a carer any more

Many thanks, yes I understand now. My sister has got financial POA, and has recently registered the one for health & welfare with the OPG so should receive the official document for that soon. She understands they can only be used when capacity is lacking. I'll suggest she approaches the GP for...

    Lewy Bodys, Nobody knows

This is just awful for you. I can't imagine the terror of such hallucinations, and it seems doubly cruel that you remember some of them. I am so sorry.

I don't want to be a carer any more

This is outrageous! @TNJJ & @DesperateofDevon - just to be clear regarding 2-4 weeks respite care for assessment, in my sister's case is the process that even though her husband is self-funder, she will nevertheless have to get LA's agreement for it (because of breakdown). She can't simply...

I don't want to be a carer any more

Thanks. I'm going over there this week for a few days and on the day my BIL is at Day Centre my sister and are going to let our hair down by visiting a care home. I will add this to our list of questions for them.

I don't want to be a carer any more

@maryjoan, I am very sorry to hear this, but at the same time am most grateful to read this thread tonight, as my sister feels exactly as you do and is just starting what we all fear may be a protracted fight with Adult Services to convince them - even after needs assessment - that her OH needs...

    So is this it...?

Sounds good, like a step in the right direction. Well done to you, your daughter and support worker!

    Mum not drinking

She may indeed be getting more fluid than seems obvious, depending on what she is eating. Soup can be another good way of increasing fluids, or very sloppy casseroles. And now the weather's cooling down ... Every little helps.

    So is this it...?

You can only do what you can do, and no daughter could have been trying harder than you. At least you have more clarity now. Good luck with the needs assessment request.

    Safeguarding issues raised ....again

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought. :( To have to engage in fights like this on top of everything else is an appalling situation - and one that so many people on TP seem to be in at one time or another. Or indeed constantly! After following another thread recently, I read The Selfish Pig's...

    Safeguarding issues raised ....again

@DesperateofDevon, as you know, I have no direct experience, and am only beginning to have any indirect experience of the "system" (which seems every bit as cruel as the disease itself ), so am in no position to advise. But (with apologies if this has already been discussed previously)...

    Awful situation. Really sorry.

    What would happen if ......

And thanks again, @Sirena! Yeah, you're right to raise the week-long admission for assessment procedure. Earlier, I rang another couple of council-run homes to test for consistency of information, and they operate as you outlined. I've since found out that the first home I rang has recently...

    What would happen if ......

Thank you all very much for your replies this morning! @Sarasa and @Sirena that is really helpful information and revives my hope somewhat. Thank you so much. I've also spoken to a council run home this morning and now have a much better understanding of their process - including that they...

    What would happen if ......

Those anecdotes made me smile too. I passed on your comments - and fear I have plunged my sister into deeper despair! She has convinced herself that her husband will be deemed to have fluctuating capacity and won't agree to move to a home. I am not so pessimistic about the capacity question...
