    Erratic sleep pattern

I have found this to be the same before my OH’s stroke, except for him reading the newspaper. I don’t think he was taking it in but it kept him awake. A trip out for a coffee n cake late in the afternoon was the only reason he’d get out of bed after lunch sometimes. If I didn’t take him out or...

    Erratic sleep pattern

Thank you. He’s now suffering from post stroke insomnia. It’s more a stroke thing but the dementia doesn’t help. He’s now been awake since yesterday morning bar about 1.5 hours this morning, 20 mins tonight. It’s torture for all concerned, especially him. x

    Erratic sleep pattern

My PWD went through a stage of sleeping all the time, to the extent his daughter reported me to SS for negligence, suggesting I was letting him sleep his life away. (He also got hold of the car keys once when he still had a licence but we didn’t want him to drive) Nothing I could do would stop...

The son had been quite good and we all worked together well when my OH was really ill. It’s changed a bit since..

    Virtual Christmas thread

This Christmas has been so difficult. My PWD had a significant haemorrhagic stroke earlier this month and is in hospital. His dementia has leapt forward and he often doesn’t make any sense and is easily confused. He had been declining steadily but this rapid advancement has sent me reeling...

I don't want to be a carer any more

Yes, the eyes in the back of your head plus making sure he doesn’t get upset because he can’t do things. I have to tell him several times a day, every day and as if it were the first time, that he’s not allowed to drive anymore. I must also hide the car keys as he’s always looking for his...

I don't want to be a carer any more

Thank you. We’ve have four brilliant years together but this 5th year has been so hard, with the diagnosis and then a quick dip in his condition. I’ve not been sleeping well so I hope my outlook will improve if I get a decent night’s sleep. I take my hat off to those who’ve cared for their PWD...

I don't want to be a carer any more

I’ve been reading this post and comments because I’m having a bad week. My OH is not as bad as many on here but is forgetful, repetitive and has bouts of confusion. He’s not thinking things through, like walking the dog on a local field in this weather and not wearing wellies so his new trousers...

    Am I negligent?

Thank you. I’ve been really open with her about some of his very recent medical issues and we’re all talking on the same page again. I hope it lasts as we need to work together for my OH’s sake. I’ll always be a bit wary but I’m not going to show it.

    Am I negligent?

Thank you Dimpsy and White Rose. When someone spells it out to me, it becomes clearer. No, they didn’t see him that much before diagnosis and I think there’s some guilt there. She wants to attend doctors appointments with us which suggests she wants to muscle in, even on routine appointments. To...

    Am I negligent?

My OH has noticed that people are always asking him how he is and he doesn’t understand why they should show such concern.

    Am I negligent?

T Thank you, I’ve not heard of that. Last night, for a change he had a bath and got stuck for over 20 mins. I eventually helped him get out but today he tried to put his shoes on whilst on a chair which gave way and he fell and hit his head. He’s ok but struggled to get back up even with my...

    Am I negligent?

So Sorry I’ve only just seen this. So sorry that you’ve had to go through the extra stress of dealing with more than just your PWD. I had a terrible week the week before last with them but it’s calmed down again and I’m getting an extra day of help next week - that makes 2 afternoons. I’m...

    Am I negligent?

That’s a good idea, he loves his paper. He always refers to his watch but it relies on movement to wind itself up and he sleeps a lot. It’s often hours out and even been the wrong date! It’s not just learning though. His daughter helped him buy a new (cheap) electric razor less than a fortnight...

    Am I negligent?

Just to say we’ve had a brilliant night out tonight- with my family! Loads of good conversation and laughter and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. It cheered me up because yesterday, he couldn’t work out why he couldn’t get out of the car. He still had his seatbelt on and didn’t know what it was...
