    End of life plan

Sadly we got the phonecall at 21.15 from the hospital to say that DH's breathing had changed and he passed away shortly after. It's a 20 mile journey and he passed about 5 mins before we got there. He looked so peaceful and at ease.

You're probably right canary about the side room. We do have unrestricted visiting and free parking was also arranged for us.

    End of life plan

No real change in my DH today. He just laid there looking up not moving. Yesterday the hospital said they would put him in a side room. Today we find they have moved him but to another bay and shoved up in the corner out of the way. The nurse barely spoke to us.

    End of life plan

My DH is on an end of life pathway. He hasn't eaten for six days now and only minute amounts of liquid which he started refusing two days ago. Glycerine sticks are being used to refresh his mouth. He has a pump which is giving him pain relief and to stop him getting agitated. The hospital...

    Happy (hospital) christmas

Thank you Canary. After talking to the doctor an end of life plan is being put into place. My husband will be moved into a side ward and a nursing home will be looked for in the new year if he survives that long.

    Happy (hospital) christmas

I also spent Christmas day at the hospital visiting my husband. Within weeks he declined rapidly. No longer eating with just a few sips of liquid. The plan was to have him home but unfortunately after just over 24 hours he was readmitted. After chatting to the staff nurse yesterday it would...

    Signs of stopping eating

My husband has stopped eating and it's a struggle to get fluids into him. He has been assessed by SALTs and foods have to be mashed (no bread) and drinks have thickener in them. He is unable to feed himself so everything is spoon fed. Saturday he refused both food and drink and yesterday he...

    being sectioned

My husband has dementia with Lewy body and after after three weeks away from home (one on respite and two in hospital) he came home Friday lunchtime. His behaviour was most challenging and I found him difficult to look after him. He became violent, kicking and thumping me. He'd squeeze my...

    Thinking of moving to Welshpool

I'm in Wem so you're not far from me. I did hear though that while care was cheaper things like equipment were either not available or a long waiting list.

Room needed for hospital bed and hoist

You really just confirmed what I'd expected. I don't think they're going to send an OT out but having spoken to one they would need access to both sides of the bed so it does need to be the biggest room.

Room needed for hospital bed and hoist

Thanks Nitram. I had planned on taking the carpet up. Son is a carpet fitter so new flooring is never an issue.

Room needed for hospital bed and hoist

Thanks Katrine. They haven't said about a home visit but going on what you've said I need to use the sitting room. Unfortunately our downstairs rooms are quite small but I was hoping to use the dining room as it has doors and views out to the back garden and less disruption.

Room needed for hospital bed and hoist

I've already posted about my DH stay in hospital so won't go into detail here. DH is due to be released from hospital but needs a downstairs bedroom. The hospital are going to supply a bed and hoist. I'm getting conflicting information about how much room is needed. Has anyone got this...

The 'Proverbial has hit the fan'

Thank you. Unfortunately the family all live too far away to do any visiting so it's all down to me. Having discussed it with our sons we thought we'd leave it till Wednesday to see how things are progressing before trying to escalate. I do feel the longer he's in hospital the worse he will...

    live in care or not

My husband has LBD and it's certainly not an easy dementia. Have you asked for a carer's assessment to see what help and support you can get via social services. I don't know your partner's finances but it could be that he gets some financial aid for carers. I prefer to go through an agency...
