    Not talking much

Hi Diane I had to make the same decision 2 over 2 weeks ago, sadly Dad died 2 weeks today, I looked at my Dad and knew I had made the right decision. I had watched him over the last 15 months go from a reasonably healthy elderly gentleman to a wasted skeletal elderly gentleman! I have laid...

    Dad at Peace

Hi Everybody My lovely Dad passed on this morning after an awful couple of days not eating or drinking, just two of his many problems this week. After talking to his GP it was decided earlier in the week to let nature take its course and bless him, it is a happy release. He is at peace and...

    Eating Problems

Hi Everybody Nursing home rang this morning to say that Dad had took a turn for the worse, he is not eating or drinking now, spoke to doctor and we are of the same opinion that we will let nature take its course. Bless him, doctor thinks he may have had another "incident" which has left him...

    appeals for continuing care

Hi Lesley Dad was refused Continuing Healthcare in January, he was in an Assessment Unit at the time, due to miscommunication with his Social Worker there was a delay of 2 months before I appealed, to cut a long story short I finally won Dad's case in July. It was very stressful at the time...

hospitals are really not equipped for people with dementia!

Hi Suzanna, I can sympathise with your comments, Dad has been to hospital three times within the last 2 weeks, he has urine infection, faulty "balloon" and today to top it all the catheter came out! This time last year he was admitted to hospital with seizure/altered state of...

Dad was taken back to the Assessment Centre last night and is doing nicely. I do worry more than ususal when he has to go to Hospital, I know he doesn't...

continuing care - the first step?

Hi Suzanna, Dad was refused Continuing Healthcare in January, I have appealed against the decision, I think it is a bit of a lottery as to what area you live in!!! If Dad is refused this time I will probably not go any further, it is emotionally and mentally draining!!! The Assessment...

    Appeal for Continuing Healthcare!!

I totally agree Chip, unfortunately I wouldn't know how to go about it, it is a joke that Continuing Healthcare does not actually use the reason for a patients dementia ie. Vascular Dementia which is mainly caused by heart problems, as an issue in assessing Continuing Healthcare!!! Susi XXXX

    Appeal for Continuing Healthcare!!

Thanks for your words of support Maragarita, I have fingers and toes crossed for next Tuesday!!! I am of the opinion that not many people actually go down the appeal route, it seemed to be unheard of at Dad's assessment hospital!! I've said it before and I'll say it again, this has been my...

    Appeal for Continuing Healthcare!!

Thanks Connie and Clive, I have just checked Dad's assessed level of needs, he has 1 high, 3 moderate, 6 low and 2 no needs. I have started to wonder if he should have been refered or not in the first place. However, as far as I am concerned his condition has changed since the last assessment...
