My father was diagnosed with Alzheimers last year. He is 81 and up to that point had led an extremely healthy and active life. He is an ex Royal Marine and continues to be very proud of his military service. Living in mid Dorset, the only organised activity we can find for him (and to give my Mum some respite from caring for him) is a morning-only gardening club. Unfortunately on quite a few occasions social services have "forgotten" to book the transport to take him. This is only notified to Mum some 2 hours after they should have picked him up! This is very upsetting for both of them. Does anyone else experience this lack of organisation in their area? Also, some areas in the South run Kitbags and Berets Memory Cafes. I have enquired about this at our local Alzheimers Society office but they say they don't have the funding for it. But it's needed in a highly populated ex-military area! What can I do to encourage my area to do something like this?
