I'm glad that you enjoyed your night out Sylvia

You must be high up on your Grandson's list of favourite people to be invited to his birthday do.

Take care

Aw Sylvia what a lovely grandson you have, Texts are great I love getting them from my grandchildren it's usually just a quick one to thank me for a Easter, Christmas or birthday present, I also think that phone calls with teenagers can be a bit awkward especially if they are at the yea, no, mmm stage :D:cool:

Thanks everyone. I love these texts .

He is lovely and he is also mad. [ in the nicest sense ] :D But no one would know unless they were within the family.

And 2jays, I really would do anything for him. :)

Hi what does this mean on one of the previous posts .' Lack of discretion in communication ,use of Salts ' Thanks

It`s so typical of professional jargon .

In the hospital the medical staff kept saying they would contact a SALT regarding my husband`s seeming inability to take food and drink.

SALT stands for Speech and Language Therapist. They are not just able to help with speech therapy, they can be invaluable in helping people who have swallowing difficulties.

My objection was the continued use of abbreviations . Medics should use the full title so everyone , especially relatives of the seriously ill can understand what they are talking about.

So the `lack of discretion` means medics should be aware who they are trying to communicate with and SALT was given as an example.

I hope that helps.

Lovely post Sylvia.

I'm not sure which I want to try more the cheesecake or the belgium biscuit cake?

I can't believe your Grandson is 16, I remember you telling us about his acting.

I hope you all have a lovely time on Saturday.

x

Hi Sylvia,
There is an NHS directive that acronyms are not to be used in both written and spoken communication (just seems no one has read it).
Just had breakfast but now fancy some cheesecake. Is Harry still into acting.
Stepson is currently filming new BBC documentary-http://www.knickerbockerglory.tv/portfolio/south-side-story/
He started with one song but now has three. To be shown in September.

H never fails to put a smile on my face. It's great that you've shared his text with us. I was only telling Mandy yesterday what a good baker you are.

Love

Thanks Terry. Please let me know when the TV documentary is to be shown. Don`t forget. :) Harry is into O levels at the moment and working very hard. I just hope he gets the results he deserves.

Thanks also for the information about the NHS directive. I will use that when I attend the Champions training day.

Thanks to everyone about the text. It made me smile and we all need something to smile about . I just thought I`d share the smile. :)

Those texts are so lovely Sylvia. I prefer the Belgian biscuit cake but your grandson has obviously inherited your ST gene to be wanting only a thin coating of cream rather than the thick so many would want!
My grandson is 18 on the 19th. My daughter was anxious that Dave's funeral wasn't on that day and I said I'd make sure it wasn't. He deserves a happy special birthday not marred by sad memories. As it is, he is knee-deep in his A levels. Grandchildren are so special, I know why you would do almost anything he asked! x

Thanks Saffie.

Fortunately Harry is bursting with energy and stays as thin as a lath, eating as much as he wants.

I do hope your grandson has a happy 18th. These things cannot be put on the back burner for happier times.

It`s good to come to TP when your mind is full to overflowing isn`t it. It helped me so much when Dhiren died and you were part of that help. I think you are getting the same help now. I hope so. xx

Complaint Procedure Update

This morning I received a letter from the hospital`s Dementia Nurse Specialist confirming the invitation to attend the Dementia Champions Meeting in September to `share my experience` of the one particular ward in that hospital.

The letter included an update on the agreed actions which consisted of;
1-2-1- training with 3 staff on the ward in question, including an insight into the role of the Dementia Nurse Specialist, further information about Dementia and how it can affect patients and families.

Four more staff from the said ward are attending Dementia training which is held monthly , for all staff.

That sounds very good, Sylvia. The more we on the front lines can explain, the better, in my opinion.

Last week I spent about 45 minutes explaining a bit about dementia to a social worker. To be fair to him, dementia is not his area and he was furiously scribbling notes.

Wouldn't it be lovely if that ward, and the hospital, got a reputation of excellence in dealing with dementia

Here's hoping xx

You are such a good advocate for improved dementia care in hospital, Sylvia.
So much good can come from what you have started.
I am full of admiration for you.x

Special loving thoughts of Dhiren today. It would have been his birthday and birthdays were always important to us.
