Can anyone give me any advice on the above subject? I need a special riser/recliner for my mother who now needs to be hoisted. She has no mobility at all now, and sits and sleeps, staying in the same position.

I have tried one with an integral airflow pump for pressure relief but after an hour or so she found it uncomfortable. It was a Repose C-air tilt in space riser/recliner. I am willing to spend a large sum if I can find something suitable for her. Would a wheelchair-type armchair be preferable? Has anyone tried the Careflex range which our local mobility shop supplies?

Don't do anything hasty. Have you got a Disabled living Centre (DLC) near you. This is an impartial organisation that can advise and assess. If you have access to the internet please google this, if you don't please let me know your county and I'll check if for you.

Perhaps I should have pointed out that I have had an occupational therapist involved. She could only recommend the one chair I've tried which wasn't suitable. It could be that my mother will find all these chairs uncomfortable.

We don't seem to have DLCs in Essex. There is a local organisation called DIAL which offers advice to disabled people. I'm not sure if they could help with this predicament.

I know, it is an expensive decision to make, so it has to be right.

Look up Disabled Living Foundation to see what impartial advise, if any, is in your area

not sure how useful it is to you - I've used a company who has replaced seating filling with a gel substance to aid pressure relief - can give you contact via a personal message if useful.

Yes, please, Geordie. Has this seating helped the person you care for?

These look the same as the ones by Careflex. I think the Air chair looks as if might be comfortable for Mum and has the advantage of being a wheelchair too. Mum is in such pain at the moment, I am at a loss as to what to be able to do.

By the way, Fifimo, I meant to respond to your earlier reply to a thread of mine in which you gave me a lot of good advice. Mum now has an airflow mattress and profile bed. She has to be hoisted now as can't stand. She did have adequate pain relief until a couple of days ago when it has worsened again. I don't know if the dementia is exacerbating it.

Would any of these be suitable? They do look more comfortable than the riser chairs. I did a comparison and these are higher specifications.

We got a chair like those mentioned via our OT, it was fully funded by the LA. When Dad passed away it was returned to their stores department for future use.

Our OT organised a rep to visit and he brought 2 chairs that would be suitable, we tried them both and found the one that was best for Dad.

This was the company we went with http://www.seatingmatters.com/
