Cost of home carers

My father in law has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimers. He has had an assessment with SS but we would like to hire a carer for additional hours as we feel their assessment of his situation will not sufficiently cover his care needs. I wondered if someone could give me a rough estimate of hourly home care costs - both finding someone privately or going through an agency?? He lives in Streatham.

I have a carer through Age UK for my parents - £10.75 per hour - may be more in London..... Worth it as she is great and Age UK have been v.helpful.

I am in Greater London, but Mum died 18 months ago so I am a bit out of date. I think I paid about £12.50 per hour. One thing I would mention is that there are also premium rates for weekends, also if the call is less than a hour, for example half hour, you would pay say £7.50 which would equate to £15 per hour. If that makes sense.
