Just a Thought .....................

Carers week ...........Maybe its the carers who come to the home

Like the ones who come to mine every bl***y morning to wash & dress Mil

Then leave everything else to me

They used to come twice a day but oh my I got soooooooooooooo fed up of them I decided I would get her ready for bed

I Do it in half the time it took 2 people anyway

I want a life :D

You know what ?? If my phone rings 5 times a day you can guarantee 4 of them are enquiries about Mil

It seems like No one cares about carers ------------- I do though :D

We get no phone calls, I feel abandoned and lonely. Maybe carer week means that yes there are carers. Maybe its nothing to do with helping us :(:mad::eek:

Life life! I would love a life but that is not my lot. I am sure MIL would like a life but unfortunately that will never come back again for her...........sad but true.

STILL WAITING :D

Sorry-I sound like a right ungrateful c*w reading that back!

You don't, you're just saying it as it is. I look back on my life (not meant to do that:confused:) and I was doing similar 20 years ago, no children though and no TP or anything similar. I didn't have much time for socialising with working F/T and caring. Now I try and work out where I went wrong and experiencing EO symptoms. Considering my own needs is the answer, but then it seemed impossible.

KM I admire the way you care for your Mum at the same time as trying to break free from the suffocating nature that 1 on 1 caring brings with it often, very subtly. Take my hat off to you - if I were wearing one that is;)
Best wishes to you
Sue

Oh ring the bells - it's Carers' Week
So I will have a ball

Someone else will take the strain
And they will do it all :D

They'll organise the washing
And the hygiene aspects too

They'll help DH to have a bath
And they'll clear up the poo! :D:D

They'll answer endless questions
And they'll cope with repetition

And leave me free to paint my nails
And I won't need permission

They'll cope with loss of temper
And loss of memory

In fact they'll cope with everything
And they will care for me :)

How great to have a Carers' Week
It's nicer than I thought

With all these people clammering
To give me their support

It's given me a welcome boost
Of that there's no denying

Oh! My oh my! Look in the sky
There's loads of pigs a-flying! ;););)

Maybe those who are supposed to be ringing have Dementia themselves and have forgotten they were supposed to ring?.... I know bad taste but couldn't help it!

Lovely poem well done

Well I am back from going out. Hubbie says no one has telephoned no one has called on the door. Maybe tomorrow I will get the call I so long for...........:D

Thanks for the poem Scarlett, love it.

Carara - wonder if your carers are the same as mine? One is supposed to come night and morning to get husband dressed/undressed, washed etc. so far we've had 12 different people in less than two weeks. Perfect for someone with dementia - not! A couple of times they have had to leave without being able to do anything.

I will set my alarm tomorrow so that I am ready and waiting for the influx of calls that will be coming................:D

Hey Pross,

Mil had free carers up until last week...Oh my there were different women every morning & same again at night

Just when we got used to them they changed again

All in all they went from emergency carers, short term, long term and now private

I sacked the eve ones coming I was sick of them knocking the door at all hours

I now undress her myself in les than half the time

Thats when she not hitting, kicking or trying to bite me that is

Strange how she`s " a perfect little old lady" for the carers

But I do know her:D

That made me giggle !

Alas its black humour but you made a very good point, and who else knew it was cares week? I help look after my dad when my mum works. We were told of all the wonderful help we would get or even access....but its not out there we carry on alone

I thought I would look up the 'Carers Week' website to see if there were any events near me I could go to.
You have to put your location in and the nearest events come up on a map.
I did not recognise any of the place-names but thought one might be in Kent. Rats I thought - that's the other side of the country to me.
No - I was wrong, it was in America!! Nothing in Somerset England then :D

This thread has really made me smile......and oh boy I needed cheering up.

The irony makes it so amusing though it's sad that it does....

Thank you for the much needed humour tonight.

xx

This thread is making me laugh. I wonder if it's like having Trees Week, where we all notice local trees, appreciate the shade they give and say profound things like "I don't know what we'd do without you tree! Good job on being a tree!". Then we walk away and forget all about the tree because what else can we do? We're not bl**dy trees, so it's not like we can take a turn at shading the street! That's your job tree, get it? That's why you were born a tree! <in a perfect world tree drops big branch on condescending big mouth benefitting from the shade> :D:D:D

Well I am awake and waiting everybody!!!!:D

I have someone coming round to assess MIL for respite in our home once every 2 weeks at 10am so I hope I don't miss all the phone calls and knocks on the doors

Carers week is when carers.org highlight the plight of the carers! If you Google that on internet does it come up for America??
