My mother is in a nursing home with vascular dementia and although it is difficult to hold a conversation with her she seems to enjoy visual stimulation eg looking at magazines etc. I was wondering if any of you have brought any games/activities for someone with dementia and if you found them useful?

Look at the Royal Society for the Blind website, big bingo cards, puzzles, books etc. Collages are great as are colouring books that are dry able. My mum likes photo albums which generate talk and I've bought her lots of big stick type games.
Its easier to play than talk sometimes and America does seem to have this type of problem sorted out.

Mum really enjoyed doing some flower arranging the other day I was really surprised how she started feeling for the oasis and putting the flowers in.
I have played draughts and dominoes, even in a simple form it is often easier to do something together rather than have a one sided conversation when visit king.
There are also some good web sites with activities for people with dementia on.
