The continuing healthcare con

My mother is still in hospital but is due to come home to spend the rest of her short time on this earth at home on Friday. She has been fast tracked because of her cancer and prognosis and has continuing health care in place. This entitles her to four hours care each day with 1 hour in the morning, 1 hour lunchtime, 1 teatime and 1 bedtime. They cannot supply any help during the night but are asking the charities for some help if I get overloaded with this committment. I will be sleeping at her houser each night until she dies as she is too frail to be left alone overnight.

So continuing care actually means 4 hours guaranteed help and the hope that some charity will help me with the night time sitting.

Obviously I'm very grateful for what help I can get and I can put my life on hold to do all the night time sitting and shopping she needs but what about others in a similar position who are quite unable to do this?

And as I say, we have continiing care in place!

I've signed but am not optomistic of the results of this petition.

Hear Hear Flooz for taking up this petition. Totally behind you, it's appalling the way the social services squirm out of their responsibility and abandon the vulnerable in their hour of need.
Good shout.

Well done Flooz for highlighting this once again - duly signed. I am battling for CHCF for my husband at the moment so know exactly how you feel. We have already been turned down twice but I will keep trying. It's ridiculous they say he can't go into a residential home because he needs to be in a nursing home but for CHCF his needs are not nursing!! Hope you can get the number of signatures you require. Firstly, I hope the admin don't mind my posting this, but after fighting for 2 years, and losing, continuing healthcare funding for my Mum, I unearthed a whole load of information, much of which I found on this site. I know that many of you find yourself in the same situation as me, and will therefore, hopefully, support the cause.

I feel very strongly that we have to fight this unlawful refusal by the NHS to cover the cost of care home fees for our loved ones and am trying desperately to highlight the issue in every way I can.

I have created an e-petition, which needs 100,000 signatures and then it has to be debated in parliament. I know this doesn't guarantee anything changing, but it's a start. The link is at the bottom of this message. Please click, and sign!

I hope you will all support this, and please fee free to share in via any form of social media you can think of!

Is the level of care improved with NHS Funding?

Is the level of care improved with NHS Funding?

No, the care remains the same for most, but without the huge bills every month. We have an NHS service which is responsible for providing the care, and although they can pass the caring to another, they are still responsible for funding it. A bit like those that have had their operations passed to a private hospital; the NHS still fund it.

Signed, but I haven't yet clicked on the email link to confirm signature, so will do that in a minute, that will make me number 100. That is a pathetically small number of people to sign so come on everyone.
Perhaps if this isn't made a sticky we can keep bumping it up?
Will share on FB

Well it still says 99 signature, so i am not number 100, do you think something is wrong?

Scragged bloke - no, the fees to the home remain the same (as far as I know) but the bill is picked up by the NHS and not YOU!

Totally agree, 100 is a very small number, especially when you consider I have posted this link both on here and another forum that specialises in helping people fight this stance by the NHS. Unfortunately, so many people just accept what they are told, thinking the authorities must be right - but on this matter, they aren't.

For anyone that has facebook, twitter, e-mail, or any other social media, the more we share this, and ask others to share too, the more chance we have of reaching the magic number. :-D

thanks for doing this.
we are at the point now where they are looking at continuing healthcare for mum but we are not getting our hopes up. I would like to take them on over it too if they turn her down for funding but I'm about to have a baby!
still..........if I can get the energy........I will still do it!

someone has to change things dont they.......sometimes it only takes a few.

Why have only 100 signed? We have 1175 active(?) members. If some don't agree it would be helpful if they told us why.

It's only been going a few days, so many members won't have seen it yet. I sincerely hope that people will still see the thread, now it's been moved, and that everyone will share it on their own social media, and/or through e-mail to get their friends to support it too.

I actually doubt that as many people will see it and be encouraged to sign the petition now it's in this forum as it's away from the main arena for me. I very rarely come in here, I usually visit the Support forum and the Tea Room.

I do hope I'm wrong :(
