Hi

I am new one here, registered a few minutes ago so sorry if this has been done.

My dad has Alzheimer's and my brother & I look after him in his own home. He is fine at the moment providing nothing happens that breaks his routine. He is also physically very fit and goes out for a long walk everyday.

Twice in the past month he has come home with stolen booty! Nothing expensive. a packet of biscuits one day and a pair of stick on soles for his shoes another day. He can tell me he has stolen them but does not know from which shop, otherwise I would go and explain and pay for them.

Has anyone had any experience of this and how is he likely to be treated if he does get caught?

hi Harley

Welcome from a fellow Sheffielder! I wouldn't worry about whether subjects have already been "done" or not - there's new people coming along all the time and I don't think it hurts to look at things again.

Don't know what to suggest though ...... my dad was more one for leaving things than taking things ........... they could have made a good pair ;)

I'd hope your dad would get treated pretty leniently if caught ...... and if caught it would at least give you the opportunity to explain and pay! I used to worry myself sick when dad would wander off around Sheffield, losing things, looking lost, getting himself in a muddle with banks etc. Suprised and touched how kind and helpful total strangers turned out to be towards him. Maybe he was just lucky ..

Thanks for that.

Found this forum when I was looking for advice. Nice to have someone who understands to let off steam with.

It's a shame he can't remember anything or I could ask him for a Gucci watch;)

Good idea. See if he can get some tea, or is it time for G&T yet? Maybe not!

I'm up for it if you are, after all we are supposed to support each other on this forum. Can't let you drink alone:)

Sounds about right to me , as I have work in a store , as long as he does not fight do a runner when caught by secruity , they do realise that it was not done with intention to
Steal

his just picking it up forgetting to pay Then when his out side realises that he has not pay , so to him its like he has stolen it, love to go shopping with him :D

We had a few people like that
One lady would go to the chicken section just put them her bag and walk out , you can not approach the person until they walk out , are out side the shop. staff who had seen it happen would inform security, then when security see then walk outside shop , security person stop them , escorting then to the office to give them the opportunity to explain and pay , usually they have the money with them to pay and all is ok .

Áine Nice to see you back on TP , where have you been on some world tour

No, they had their protest meeting, complained that they were overworked, discovered that they were the most popular smilie, and came back to work.:D :D :D

Harley, see you in Tea Room later -- the gin's on you!

I'm afraid we're trivialising your problem -- sorry!:( I'm afraid I haven't a clue how to handle it. Hopefully someone will come on soon who has some experience.

Love,
