We have a meeting soon regarding her assessment. My mother will not eat, drink or take any medication. She is aggressive and not capable of looking after herself. What type of nursing will she need?
I should add that she is in hospital for her assessment and she was in a Dementia Care Home but the home were finding it diificult to cope with her behaviour

Welcome to TP. I am sorry you find yourself here.
You don't say if your mother is already in hospital, but I assume she is. In which case she will remain in hospital until she is stable and as well as can be. This can take a long time as the medication is sophisticated and has to be adjusted to suit each individual. Sometimes it has to be adjusted several times. Only then will a picture emerge of the level of care required.
However, if she is not in hospital and is as ill as you describe, a decision will have to be made on whether or not to admit her. This will depend on how much she is considered to be at risk.
I wish you well - this situation is distressing and stressful for you all.

Sounds as if your Mum will need a nursing home that specialises in caring for people with similar behaviour. My Mum and Dad are in such a home – maybe your Mum’s SW knows of one. When my Mum went in (from an EMI residential home) she sounded exactly like you describe your Mum, and her behaviour even worsened initially. It was touch and go as to whether she would be sectioned and have to go to a psychiatric unit, but thankfully the Challenging Behaviour team tweaked her medication and she did calm down, relatively speaking. Luckily for Mum it was decided that her problems were behavioural as opposed to psychotic. Having said that, she now has to spend a lot of time in her own room because she shrieks and upsets the other residents (and their visitors), and she has had a dramtic decline over the last year, but at least she is in a caring environment and I wouldn’t want her to be anywhere else.
Best wishes, C
