Thanks Loo:)

I think we are going to use the original name of the house as in Jimbos post.

The name is on the original old iron gate at the end of the drive.

At the moment I keep saying to people we are going to the `Old Convent`:D

hello danny
Wonderful news
I share with all your friends on TP the congratulations to you
It has been a long , hard, and frustrating time for you
now hopefully you can relax a bit and take some pleasure in
the rewards
Iam pleased that youhave decided It is a lovely name that has been
with the house since it was built , a little bit of continuing history
I am sure the Sisters will continue to say a daily prayer to protect their old home and the people who will continue to use the house for such a christian purpose

Gusto!!!

I think my bubble may be bursting.I am living in a specialist dementia day support service.I am surrounded by rummage boxes, screens with calming seas, gentle cascading water features, pictures of bygone movie stars, boards telling me what day it is,pictures directing me to the loo, pictures of what is for lunch, smells of lavender and ginger wafting out of diffusers, dart boards, pinball machine, juke box, masses of curiosities and objects for me to pick up,stuffed toys, dollies,a piano and lots of musical instruments for me to play with, magnifying glasses, dominoes with big dots on,board games, kareoke machine, lava lamps, big print newspaper and a wii.I look outside and I can see winter plants, wind chimes swaying, colourful whizzing windmills, old tin advert boards and a morris minor car.I walk around and I can see potting sheds, vegetable plots and greenhouses all in an enclosed walled garden.Gentle music is playing. At the front sits a new mini bus.In the office there are shelves upon shelves of information sheets, books, all on dementia. On the office wall hang certificates of attendance on many specialist courses. On my desk sits confirmation from Sterling University of my place starting next week to study a diploma in dementia studies and a lesson plan for a new course I have written that the Alzheimers society need in order to begin an accreditation process with them to become an approved trainer. The gardener is raking the leaves outside, his dementia certificates are on the wall as well.I have offered my house free of charge to be used as a memory cafe and a pop in centre for stressed out carers to come in for a chat and a coffee anytime.Hundreds of calls and letters later the only people interested have been 2 MPS and 2 representatives from the Alzheimers Society are coming out next week.No one is listening even to those who want to help and make a difference.

I think you are just fabulous! You offered your house free of charge to be used as a memory cafe and pop in centre for stressed out carers!.....WELL DONE YOU! And thank you for giving the care and thought and offer to the people within that location 'cornwall' is (Beautiful!) I'm down south!

I hope things pick up on that front. But hey YOU DANNY......WAY TO GO! HIGH 5!!!!! and good luck in your studies!

Bit of a mixed bag of news today. Last night we held a drop in session for all the local GPs and practice staff from 5pm til 7pm. Invited well in XS of 100 GPs, we provide lots of free services and we wanted to let the doctors come and see for themselves what we do and where we are. Guess how many turned up.

One, and this one was late and came at 7.45pm, but,at least one came which means her patients will now know what we offer carers etc so that was well worth it, plus all our day guests got lots of chocolate cake today:D

I had a phone call from the ward manager of two local community hospitals asking if her lead dementia nurses could come around to see what we do. They are having more and more patients with memory problems and they need to look at the social side of care now not just the medical, they are having problems with people wanting to go home, wandering and getting quite aggressive. These nurses want to make their wards more dementia friendly and that is wonderful news for patients.

Our second site is opening in Wigan next month, a smaller scale version of here but wonderful news.We were going to open in Bolton but sadly had problems with the site.
It has taken a bit of time with planning applications but it has now been granted and it is all systems go.

Lastly, our official opening of our new centre here is tomorrow. I have been running round putting various signs up especially around the gardens to be, asking for volunteers etc to help restore them to their former glory.

Fingers crossed for good weather tomorrow and a decent turnout:)

Hi Angela,
My word you never stop working on your dream, lovely to hear another update.

I can't believe that only one GP turned up to your soirée. You must have been so disappointed especially after all your planning efforts for the evening. I guess they were all "too busy".

But good news about the interest from the lead dementia nurses. Do you think they are saying that they are having more and more patients with memory problems? Or are they just more aware than they were before of patients' problems? Surely the cases of dementia are not growing so fast that nurses are detecting an increase under their noses? That would be worrying.

I didn't know you had a second site in Wigan opening next month. Wow, that's absolutely brilliant.

Good luck with the opening of your new abode tomorrow. I'll be thinking about you.

Love Jancis xxx

Hi Jancis:)

We actually knew that not many GPs would turn up but you can`t say we aren`t trying.:)

The conversation with the hospital manager today highlighted an increase in admissions with people with memory problems and the fact that they need some tips in how to occupy these people. The hospital is a community one not the main acute one so I guess it is sort of a nursing home but for short stay.

The Wigan site is a test pilot for a franchise, it is nurse led but a Community Interest Company in its own right. We are not supporting it financially for obvious reasons but we are supporting it with training and management time etc etc.The team from up north have spent two weeks here and I will be going up to help them get going.
Exciting!!!

My very best wishes for the new project Danny. It must feel wonderful to be actually getting recognition in the form of requests for help and most certainly you are the person to advise them on good dementia care. I hope that this also helps to ease the cash flow problems a little so that you can continue to offer such good services for dementia sufferers.

A bit of a mixed bag this month. Our board is now formalised including a dementia professional from the NHS,this is wonderful partnership working.

The youth voluntary team are starting on clearing the memory garden next week.
We are hosting a late jubilee garden party with the AS on Friday.

The Wigan team are at the beginning of their journey and it looks at the moment that it is going to be as tough as starting here. It is as difficult introducing a new service as it is for carers trying to find a service. We have the same problems, trying to find who is who, who does what ETC ETC. I am going up north for a week later this month to help them get this project off the ground!!!
We have a OT student placement scheme starting in July which is wonderful news.
Hope everyone is keeping well:)
