First thank you to all who replied to my earlier message about eating.

Yay I have booked a holiday even though a bit concerned about taking my husband abroad but am now worried about the insurance. Will hopefully give us something to look forward to particularly after the last few stressful years. Booked the holiday with Thomson's and rang the medical health line but they are busy so are going to ring me back tomorrow. A couple of year's ago I told them about the heart medication my husband is on but now also need to tell them he has early Alzheimer's. Just hoping they won't refuse as you have to have travel insurance and Thomson's have stated this. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thank you - Reds x

I would stress that he is in the very early stages and is quite capable if you are with him. It is amazing how expensive insurance can be and at the stage he is at, it would be a shame to be paying a fortune out when he is quite capable of going on holiday with you. I would also inform them that he is still in work and allowed to drive

When I booked a holiday last year for my wife and I, I took out travel insurance with a company that specialised in covering pre existing medical conditions.

As my wife's condition deteriorated rapidly, I had to cancel the holiday and reclaim the deposit (less excess) from the insurance company. My wife's GP was supportive and we had no problems in getting the deposit back.

The company was freedominsure.co.uk and the policy was underwritten by AXA. It was recommended to me by our social worker.

Best of luck.

Travel insurance sorted

Hi

Just to let you know the travel insurance got sorted to day, and it was fine. I rang the number Thomson said to ring and they said the insurance is fine but won't cover anything connected to anything that has been diagnosed already. I could have paid another £150 approx to cover everything but just glad we can actually go on holiday.

Thanks again for your comments.

I think it's quite normal for travel insurance to exclude pre-existing conditions. Glad you got it sorted out.

Reds, hi
You are more of a gambler than me, I would have paid the extra just to make sure all was taken care of.

I hope that you have a lovely holiday, with best wishes from Jo

I can't remember where it is you are going? Alzheimers in the early stages shouldn't be any worry at all for your holiday. Spend the extra on yourselves and having a good time.
