Yesterday in my other thread I said mum mum
not to good and will call doc out if no better
2day.

got mum up this morn for loo trip, she was loose
obviously not feeling to good and weak, suspected mum was
constipated and bypassing and thought maybe chast
infection

doc has been, mums chest is clear:)
doc listened to mums belly and felt it
and confirmed my suspisions.

got to increase mum's Movicol to 3 a day for
up to 3 days, and hopefully within that time
mum will... er, perform beautifully and feel
much better.

This particular gp always say's how well
mum looks, when to us mum looks ill, so when
she said it 2day my reply was,(with a grin) you havent
seen mum when when she is well.

Some suggestions

Hi Lin,

My Mum experiences the smae thing. We got a nurse to show us how to help the bowel to move. Lay your Mum flat on the bed a gently rock her side to side, it stimulates the bowel. Also when she is on the loo, at the base of her back, slightly stroke in a down movement. It also helped to kneel on the floor infront her when she is on the loo, with her feet resting on your knees.

Thanks Valk.
I do the back rub . will try having mums feet on me when mum's on the throne. Can't do the rocking as would terrify mum,she hates things being done to her.

Mum's belly still distended and hardish

The Movicol started working yest

and today is working too well

I just hope when this eases mum don't block up again.

If mum's belly and bowels not back to normal SOON il get doc out again

Mum is definitely more comfortable and im pushing the fluids

Hi Lin,

It also helped to kneel on the floor infront her when she is on the loo, with her feet resting on your knees.

I saw something on Embarrassing Illnesses recently and they said that the best position for ANYONE to empty their bowels is with their knees raised higher than their hips e.g. put your mum's feet on a small step or, as suggested, on your knees while you are on the floor in front of her. That puts her body into the natural squatting position necessary to open the bowels properly. You learn something new every day!! Hope the Movicol works too - my mum suffered often from this and it made her whole body bend over and stay like that until her bowels were emptied and suddenly she was upright again.

Mum seems to be feeling a bit better better:D
but is a tad more confused :(
keeps forgetting she needs to open her
mouth so I can feed her mum just chews
instead,
then when mum does realise she grins.

well the Movicol worked exceptionally well
but yest started to have similar probs
so got doc out 2day

Had to give an accurate description lol

mum kept blowing up her belly when he was
trying to feel it, told doc give it a rub
I nearly burst out laughing at his attempt
it was so gentle a gnat wouldnt have complained

showed him how I do it and mum dutifully softened
her belly for a few secs:)
he had a good listen

he couldnt feel anything abnormal and said
mums belly is gurgling away very nicely, so
blockage has cleared,

he thinks what may be happening is the last few bits
passing, if you get my drift,

told him I put mum back on the maintainance
dose of Movicol yest, told me to continue with it
but if not back to normal in a couple of days
to call them out again

I must say mum is much better, looks a lot brighter
than she has done for weeks,

occasionally still keeping her mouth closed and chewing on nothing when im trying to get a spoonful of food in, I hope this isnt a new phase starting.
does anyone have any experience of this

I haven`t any experience of the same but one of the carers at my husband`s home said he holds food in his cheek and spits it out when she goes away.
I wondered if it meant he had had enough. I wonder the same about your mum.

eating and drinking

Mum is counting while raising the cup to her lips. Then sometimes on 12 she will take a sip. I tried encouraging it to be on the count of two, but she just made up a rhyme-ing pattern of 6 one twos! She only drinks a few sips when I see her so I'm going to raise the question at my next meeting at the home, as I'm concerned about her fluid intake.
